Privacy policy

Effective date: 14 October 2026.
Applies to the Alibi apps for Android and iOS and to this website, alibicases.com.

The short version. Alibi has no accounts, no servers and no analytics. Your cases, notes and settings are stored only on your own device and never sent to us. The one exception is advertising in the mobile app, which is handled by Google AdMob and only runs with your consent.

1. Who we are

Fossa Software is an enkeltmennsforetak (Norwegian sole proprietorship) registered in Norway, operated by Sondre Fosså. Fossa Software is the publisher and, for the purposes of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulations, the data controller for the Alibi apps and this website.

We are a one-person business and we do not employ anyone to process your data. If you write to us, the only copy of your message is the one in your inbox.

2. What we collect, at a glance

Nothing you do inside Alibi is collected by us. The table separates what stays on your device from what third parties handle when advertising is involved.

The table in section 2 is a summary. The details, including what Google actually does with the data, are set out in sections 3–5 and in Google's own policies, which govern that processing.

3. Game data stored on your device

Alibi is an offline game. When you play, the app writes the following to your device's own storage so that your case survives closing the app:

This data is written using the operating system's normal application storage. We have no server to write it to, no backup we control, and no way to read it. Uninstalling the app, or clearing the app's storage, removes it permanently.

The browser version of the game, if you use it, keeps the same information in your browser's local storage for the site you loaded it from. Clearing site data removes it.

Please keep your own backup of anything you care about. Because progress is stored only on your device, clearing the app's data, reinstalling without a restore, or switching phones will lose it. There is no cloud save, by design.

4. Advertising and Google AdMob

The mobile app carries ads. This website and the browser version of the game do not.

The Android and iOS builds integrate Google AdMob, Google's mobile advertising service. Ads are served only after the advertising SDK has started, and the SDK only starts after any required consent has been given. The ads that can appear are:

To request an ad, Google AdMob may collect and use:

Google and the networks it works with use this to select ads, to limit how often you see them, to prevent fraud, and to measure whether an ad worked. Where you have given permission for personalised advertising, they may use it to select ads based on your activity and your interests.

None of your game content is sent anywhere. Alibi does not tell Google which case you are playing, what you wrote in your notes, or whether you solved a puzzle.

Google's processing of this data is described in Google's privacy policy. Google's advertising practices, including how to opt out of personalised advertising, are set out at Google Ads Settings.

In regions where the law requires it, the app shows Google's User Messaging Platform consent message before the advertising SDK starts. No ad is requested, and the advertising identifier is not read, until you have answered that message. On iOS the system App Tracking Transparency prompt may also be shown before the advertising SDK is initialised.

Whatever you choose is remembered, and you can change it later. The app's own Bureau notebook → Ad settings & consent opens the same controls, and Google Ads Settings offers choices that apply across Google advertising.

Declining consent does not reduce anything in the game. The tutorial, every case, the hints, the notes and your progress all work exactly the same. Removing your consent simply means no ads are served to you.

6. This website and our hosting

This website, alibicases.com, is a static site. It contains no accounts, no contact forms, no advertising, no trackers, no analytics and no cookies of our own.

Web fonts

The site loads two typefaces from Google Fonts: Fraunces for headings and Inter for text. That request is made to Google's servers, so they receive the usual information any web server receives — your IP address, browser type and the page you opened — along with the fact that you are loading a font. Google Fonts does not set advertising cookies, and we do not send Google any identifiers, analytics or advertising data of our own. Google's handling of these requests is described in Google's privacy policy.

Hosting

The site is served through Cloudflare Pages, which acts as our hosting provider and network administrator. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type, requested URL and time of request in order to deliver the page, keep it secure and prevent abuse. That processing is governed by Cloudflare's privacy policy, not this one, and we do not add to it or inspect it.

We do not attempt to identify visitors, and we do not use the site to build a profile of anyone.

7. Children

Alibi is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The game involves fictional murder investigations and is not suitable for young children.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us at the address in section 14 and we will delete it.

8. Your rights

Because Fossa Software does not collect or store your personal data, there is normally no personal data for us to give you, correct or erase. Where advertising is concerned, the data is held by Google, and your choices are made through the consent controls described above and through Google Ads Settings.

If you live in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you still have the rights the GDPR and UK GDPR give you, including the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to complain to your national supervisory authority. In practice, the practical way to exercise these rights over Alibi's own data is to clear the app's storage or uninstall it. For advertising data held by Google, use Google Ads Settings or Google's data tools.

We do not sell personal information, and we have never done so. We have not shared personal information with third parties for their own purposes, and we will not.

9. Deleting your data

You can remove everything Alibi has stored at any time, without contacting us:

If you have emailed us for support and want that correspondence deleted, write to us and we will remove it from our mailbox.

10. Security

Because Alibi stores nothing about you centrally, the main risk to your data is on your own device. Protect it with a screen lock, and avoid installing the app from untrusted sources.

This website is served over HTTPS only. We keep the scope of data we hold deliberately small, which is the most effective protection available to a business of our size.

11. International transfers

If you use the mobile app outside Norway, the advertising data described in section 4 may be processed by Google and its advertising partners on servers in other countries, including the United States. Those transfers are covered by Google's own safeguards, described in Google's privacy policy. Support correspondence with us may also be routed through our email provider outside Norway.

12. Third parties and links

Alibi does not embed third-party content and does not use advertising or analytics networks of its own. Advertising in the mobile app is limited to Google AdMob as described in section 4. This website loads web fonts from Google Fonts, as described in section 6, and nothing else is requested from a third party.

This site links to Google and Cloudflare privacy pages, and to the app stores. Those are external sites with their own policies; we are not responsible for them.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the game changes or as the law does. The effective date at the top always shows the current version. If a change materially affects how your information is used, we will make it clear in the app or on this page when you next open it.

14. Contact us

Fossa Software is operated by Sondre Fosså. Write to us at:

support@alibicases.com

Please include the case title, your device model, your operating system, the app version and the steps that caused the problem. That lets us reproduce the issue without asking you for anything more than we need.

15. How this compares to the app stores’ privacy labels

Both stores publish their own summaries of app data handling, and reviewers check them against this policy. The tables below state exactly what Alibi declares, so that the label in the store and this page can be read side by side.

The mobile app embeds two Google components and nothing else: Google Mobile Ads SDK and Google User Messaging Platform. It contains no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting service and no Firebase component. Every data type below follows from those two.

What Alibi never collects

For completeness, and because the distinction matters to reviewers: no account or authentication data, no name, email address or phone number, no contacts, no photos, no files, no calendar, no precise location, no health or fitness data, no financial information, no messages or call history, no audio, and no gameplay content. Alibi does not know which cases you play or what you write in your notes.
